Sean was raised in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his grandparents, who ran a Bed and Breakfast that largely catered to Appalachian Trail hikers. Life was complicated, and he didn’t do very well in school. When it came time to apply to colleges, he was rejected from the three schools he had applied to. When his Guidance Counselor offered to pull strings to get him into the local two-year college, he decided to go part-time at the local University, where he matriculated full-time and walked out four years later with a Bachelor’s degree in English.
Over the next twenty years, Sean has been a social worker, professional fire breather, and cowherd. He came to public education unexpectedly, when a friend suggested he get certified. The last day of his first class ended with the students on their desks after watching Dead Poet’s Society.
Since those early classes, Sean has worked to gain expertise in a variety of areas. With advanced degrees in school leadership, education, and community, he is a systems thinker, considering how to make long-term change that is best for students, and finds job in working with educators and organizations in fulfilling the dreams they have if they only had ten more hours, or another set of hands.
